What is a
Letter to
the Editor?
Letters to the editor are a cornerstone of community journalism. They give readers a direct voice in the publication — a chance to agree, disagree, add context, or simply share what's on your mind about BC.
Selected letters are published on our site and shared with our full readership. Your name and city will appear with your letter.
Respond to a Story
Have more to add to a story we published? Think we missed something important? Tell us — and our readers.
Raise a BC Issue
Something happening in your community that deserves coverage? A letter is a great way to put it on our radar.
Push Back on Us
We don't always get it right. If you think our coverage was unfair or incomplete, we welcome the challenge.
Speak for Your Community
Represent a perspective that's underrepresented in BC media? This space belongs to you as much as anyone.
Submission Guidelines
Keep it under 250 words
Concise, well-argued letters are more likely to be selected. We may shorten letters that exceed the limit, with your meaning preserved.
Include your full name and city
We publish letters with the author's name and city. We do not publish anonymous letters or letters submitted under a pseudonym.
One submission per person per month
To keep our letters section diverse, we limit publication to one letter per writer per calendar month.
We edit for clarity, not opinion
We may edit letters for length, grammar, and clarity. We will never alter the substance or intent of your argument. If significant changes are needed, we'll contact you first.
Not every letter gets published
We receive more letters than we can publish. Selection is based on relevance, timeliness, and diversity of viewpoint. We appreciate every submission, even those we can't run.
